Some aggrieved soldiers held Usman Durkwa, deputy governor of Borno state, to ransom at a military checkpoint in Yobe state on Sunday. A source who witnessed the incident which occurred in Buni Gari town in Gujiba local government area of Yobe, told TheCable that the security personnel threatened to kill Durkwa. reported that, Durkwa was returning from Adamawa state, where he had attended the turbaning ceremony of Martins Babale, his Adamawa counterpart. The ceremony took place in Ganye local government area of Adamawa. However, Durkwa’s convoy reportedly ran into the military checkpoint, where no soldier was in sight. A Kwara born neurosurgeon, Prof. Wale Sulaiman, on Saturday, said he had successfully performed a minimally invasive spine surgery. Sulaiman, who is from Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, added that it was the first time the MIS technique had ever been performed in Sub-Saharan Africa. The medical practitioner told Punch.com correspondent in Ilorin, the state capital, that the surgery was performed at EuraCare Specialist Hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos State. He said, “The surgery went successfully and the patient had immediate relief of his symptoms, walking on day one after surgery.” Sulaiman, a world-renowned professor of neurosurgery from Ochsner Health System in the United States, explained that MIS surgery was a modern surgical treatment of back/leg pain and neck/arm pain. Senior sources in Nigeria’s military have told SaharaReporters that the 82 Chibok girls released today by dreaded Islamist militant group, Boko Haram, regained their freedom after intense negotiation with a faction of the militant group. The sources disclosed that the deal involved the Federal Government’s release of two senior Boko Haram commanders who had been in detention by the Nigerian security services. According to one of the sources, a combined team of military and Red Cross negotiators flew the two detained Islamist commanders to Banki town in Borno State where they were handed over to a team of Boko Haram representatives. The Boko Haram team had, in turn, brought the 82 Chibok girls to the outskirts of Banki where a heavy contingent of Nigerian troops took custody of them. CBN Approves N2b Facility for Poultry Consortium at Shonga Farms. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is to boost agriculture in Kwara State with N2billon agriculture loan facility to Poultry syndicate of Shonga Farms Holdings Limited. The CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, who dropped the hint while fielding questions from newsmen in Shonga, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, after an inspection of the farm, said the facility is to support the investor's expansion plans. The CBN governor, who expressed satisfaction with what he witnessed on the farm, said the N2b will be provided at low interest rate of 9%. He also described his visit as an eye opener, noting that there are several opportunities to tap from Shonga Farms and the poultry value chain as a whole to improve the country's economy.
