Three Escape Death In Ilorin Building Collapse

Three persons escaped death when a section of a storey building collapsed in Tanke area of Ilorin South Local Government, Kwara State. According to an eyewitness, Joy Williams, the building which was among five gigantic structures collapsed on Thursday morning. Williams said: “I was inside when I heard a loud voice and when I came out, I saw a section of the building collapsing. After then, I heard someone calling for help and passersby came to his rescue”. “While rescuing him, the people also found out that there are other people trapped in the building. The third victim was seriously injured while we watch them rush the victims to the hospital,” he added. source : ChannelsTV

Some aggrieved soldiers held Usman Durkwa, deputy governor of Borno state, to ransom at a military checkpoint in Yobe state on Sunday. Kwara man performs first MIS spine surgery in Sub-Saharan Africa

A Kwara born neurosurgeon, Prof. Wale Sulaiman, on Saturday, said he had successfully performed a minimally invasive spine surgery. Sulaiman, who is from Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, added that it was the first time the MIS technique had ever been performed in Sub-Saharan Africa. The medical practitioner told Punch.com correspondent in Ilorin, the state capital, that the surgery was performed at EuraCare Specialist Hospital in Victoria Island, Lagos State. He said, “The surgery went successfully and the patient had immediate relief of his symptoms, walking on day one after surgery.” Sulaiman, a world-renowned professor of neurosurgery from Ochsner Health System in the United States, explained that MIS surgery was a modern surgical treatment of back/leg pain and neck/arm pain. Senior sources in Nigeria’s military have told SaharaReporters that the 82 Chibok girls released today by dreaded Islamist militant group, Boko Haram, regained their freedom after intense negotiation with a faction of the militant group. The sources disclosed that the deal involved the Federal Government’s release of two senior Boko Haram commanders who had been in detention by the Nigerian security services. According to one of the sources, a combined team of military and Red Cross negotiators flew the two detained Islamist commanders to Banki town in Borno State where they were handed over to a team of Boko Haram representatives. The Boko Haram team had, in turn, brought the 82 Chibok girls to the outskirts of Banki where a heavy contingent of Nigerian troops took custody of them.
